Name and nationality:

My Given name is Cuthbert Joseph a.k.a. ‘Curtiz Melody’ I was born on the island of Trinidad & Tobago (the Trinidad bit) in the Caribbean.

Tell us a bit about you?

I’m just a bundle of creative energy. A  cartoonist, & Tugboat Captain by profession, but a singer and entertainer by choice!

Why do you decide to move to Bulgaria?

Actually, I didn’t, I was married to a woman in the UK back in 2013, & after a few months there, we migrated here, so I have lived in Bulgaria for 5 years.

What do you like about your country?

What I love about my country is, we are a happy, fun-loving, free-spirited people, lots of beaches, beautiful scenery, many festivals. Haven’t been to the Caribbean? Come to Trinidad, especially Tobago, it’s unspoiled where nature thrives, a real environmentalist paradise.

What differences do you see in your country and Bulgaria?

The differences between our countries, of course, it’s the language. We speak broken English, also a big difference Is that there are many social programs to help the not so fortunate in my country, lots. There exist lots of opportunities for persons needing to earn a livelihood.

What do you like about Bulgaria?

The warmth & friendliness of its people. I’ve made so many friends here. Lovely scenery to behold, the beautiful women (SIGHHH)* lol, and… Some of the foods, (a lot of it)

Did you have problems with any document/ procedure here in Bulgaria?

curtiz melody foreigner

…Wow, that’s a toughie, lol, the banks, the phone companies, medical, I do wish these institutions would employ more bi-lingual workers to deal with those of us struggling with the language barrier here. I can kinda explain myself as to what I need sometimes, a lil ‘grunt’ here, some of the wall sign language, & some mispronounced BG words later? & I’m out of the market with my dinner, lol.

Mention one important experience you’ve had in Bulgaria

One important thing, which I feel great about here, is having appeared on “Bulgaria Got Talent” show as a semi-finalist in 2014, where I was seen/heard by millions of people. Opened a few more doors for me as an entertainer living here.

Do you speak other languages?

No, I speak no other languages, only English.

have you visited other countries?

I have been to Los Angles, Mexico, Venezuela, the UK, Grenada, & Romania.

What advice would you give to other people who would like to come to live in Bulgaria?

The advice I would give to anyone wanting to live here… Do your research first, especially where the language is concerned. If you’re into gardening & wide open spaces and such? Still, find somewhere that’s close to a town or sup’n, I lived in a village & after a bit got bored stiff, & almost stir crazy.

Now in Veliko Tarnovo, suits me just fine. But hey, to each their own, I still enjoy a little organized chaos & a drink o’ that rakia stuff at times…NAZDRAVE!
