- about 60 regional/minority languages
Students and foreign languages in the European Union
Adults and foreign languages in the European Union
On the occasion of the European Day of Languages, figures on self-reported language skills show that in 2016, 65 % of working-age adults in the European Union (EU) knew at least one foreign language.
In Bulgaria (50 %) of the people aged 25-64 know more than a foreign language.
The European Union encourage people of all ages to learn languages – knowing more than one makes it easier to connect with people, to find a job and to help businesses grow.
