Today we are happy since for the first time at the Expat Stories an Italian will share her experiences in Bulgaria where she has been for less than a year, but already is discovering and enjoying her new life in Bulgaria,
Name and nationality:
Elisabetta, Italian
Tell us a bit about you and what you do
I’m 30 years old, soon 31. I’m a translator and a voiceover actress. I have two cats, Crudelia, Italian, and Giacomo, Bulgarian.
Why and when did you come to Bulgaria?
I came to Bulgaria on the 31st of January 2018 with my sister and my cat and my suitcases. I needed a change, a fast one and a big one. So I accepted a job here, without even knowing where Bulgaria exactly was. As soon as I arrived here, I felt at home.
What do you like about your country of origin?
Well, Italy it’s an amazing country. Everywhere you go there’s something incredible to see. The food is super good. I miss Gorgonzola cheese a bit.
What are some differences between your country and Bulgaria?
Not so many actually.
What do you like about Bulgaria?
I like the people. I like to have unspoiled nature so close to Sofia. I like the Women’s Market (Женски пазар). I like the snow.
What was the most difficult bureaucratic procedure you have undergone so far in Bulgaria?
Nothing so far. Maybe cause I’m Italian I’m used to slow and cumbersome bureaucracy, so, to be honest, I found things pretty fast here in Bulgaria!
Mention one important experience you’ve had in Bulgaria :
Two days on the Rodopi mountains. I used to go to the mountains with my dad when I was a kid, but in the past, about 7 years I completely forgot about the existence of nature. I forgot I used to like being in outdoors. And those 2 days on the mountains where amazing. Sleeping in the tend, the chants coming from different mosques, then the silence, then the falling stars…simply perfect! I was sitting in the car and my eyes literally were filled with tears. There was so much to see.
What languages do you speak other than your mother tongue?
English, and Russian.
What countries have you been to?
Many. The USA, but just New York, several times. All the major Europeans towns. Iceland, breathtaking. Indonesia, I lived there for a few months. I’ve lived for 1 year in Moscow. Honk Kong, unforgettable!
How is your business going?
Growing, I’m extremely positive about it. I think this country is full of opportunities if you are a dynamic person. I started doing voice over for kid stories thanks to an announcement on Facebook in March, and from that moment many doors opened for me in that field.
What advice would you give to other people who would like to come to live in Bulgaria?
Come and don’t be afraid. Come and fall in love with this incredible gem hidden in the Balkans.
We want to thank Elisabetta for talking with us today, we wish her a good luck in Bulgaria, and we hope to discover her voice in many more films.
