The artwork from the time of socialism in Bulgaria can help us to understand the mentality and the values of the society during the period of Socialist rule in Bulgaria (1944–1989).
One of the main purposes of art and graphic during the Bulgarian socialist period was glorifying the working classes and the feats of the partisan movement that brought communism to Bulgaria in 1944.
The workers were always represented with healthy and strong bodies since they were the cornerstone of the system.
The Cult to the personality
The art during those years was mostly commissioned by the regime for propaganda purposes numerous pieces portraiting Bulgaria’s first communist leader Georgy Dimitrov and long-ruling dictator Todor Zhivkov, they were present in all places.

The artwork during this period was very important as a way to highlight the negative sides and problems of the capitalist system, the monarchy, and any other ways of government.

The main goal was to promote the moral superiority and importance of the Bulgarian Communist Party, reflected in their posters made for their congress and meetings, remember that the communist party was present in all aspects of the life of the people, from the school to the job and sports.

The industrialization of Bulgaria was because of the communist regime, and pas from a rural country to an industrialized nation in a few decades. The artwork has show the technological superiority of Communism over the capitalism.

Even during this tight period, we can appreciate the evolution artwork, in line with the pop culture in the West.
Solidarity with other Communist countries
Communism has an international aspect, and create relations with other communist countries around the world, solidarity had a special place in the communism artwork culture as well.
The Tourism Industry
The tourism has always been an important source of income for Bulgaria, especially during the communist times, were people from all eastern bloc travel periodically to Bulgaria to enjoy summer vacations.
Industrialized country
Been Bulgaria and industrialized country have the need to promote their products to the rest of the bloc to find markets for their production.
