Why to study in Bulgaria?

Bulgaria as part of the European Union, and open the doors every year to many foreign students that decide to come to Bulgaria to study in one of the many local universities, students come from many countries especially from UK, Germany, Greece, Italy, Israel, Turkey, India, Ghana, Nigeria, just to name some of them.


Every year more than 1000 students chose Bulgaria to start their studies, this count doesn’t include all students that come in any of the many Erasmus+ programs.

The first step to obtaining a long-term student stay permit or a long-term student residency in Bulgaria is to get Bulgarian D-type Visa, for which you can apply at any Bulgarian Embassy.

All foreign students (EU and non-EU students) studying in Bulgaria must apply for residence permits at nearest Bulgarian Migration Department (Office) of the National Migration Directorate. Is the authority in charge of issuing, canceling or extending resident permits in Bulgaria.

All new non-EU international students must extend their period of stay before the expiration of their Visa D for studies and obtain a Residency Permits which also must be extended every year. For the period of the long-term student permit (1 year), the student has issued a Bulgarian Identity Card.

All applicants for long-term residency permit are subject to thorough checks by Interpol, Europol and other organizations having data for persons with criminal activities. All applicants must have clean criminal records and must not be subject to criminal proceedings, otherwise, applications will be rejected
